mamihlapinatapai
2018
“A look that without words is shared by two people who want to initiate something, but that neither will start”. Mamihlapinatapai delves into the unspoken connection shared by two individuals eager to embark on a shared action, yet hesitant to take the first step. It explores communication dynamics within relationships, drawing insights from diverse personal experiences in past connections. Across various human bonds, a prevalent pattern emerges – negative moments often overshadow the positive, impacting self-worth. Mamihlapinatapai aims to shed light not only on this common pattern but also on the transformative journey of learning and growing from toxic experiences. The objective is to observe how different relationships demand varying levels of energy in the processes of building and overcoming challenges, ultimately shaping one's self-perception. I would like to acknowledge, honor, and credit the Yaghan people of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego for developing such a beautiful word that inspired this work.
