COURTNEY
2025
COURTNEY is an evaluation of the relationship between mental institutions, manipulation, and bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is an on-going mental sickness that has genetically plagued humans for generations. Until recently, no one liked to admit or acknowledge such a crucial topic. It was for many, hard to grasp the idea that there is more to bipolar disorder than being crazy or having multiple split personalities. Through self investigation and personal interviews I have gathered information to portray what it is like within the walls of said institutions. Someone close to me in particular has been a patient in a mental hospital and had a really interesting story to go along with it. The use of digital art and movement help to give the audience a peek at how a manic episode can have an effect on the mind through this person’s story. We deeply explore how having the disorder manipulates both the mind and soul of those who wish to be freed of the strain that comes with mental illnesses.
