二時ニ分 (2:02)
In this new work, I am exploring the stages of grieving. Through research of the body in connection to the mind, I am searching for what grieving looks like within different realms of musical genres. I am also taking the time to explore and portray what these ideas look like on a plethora of black bodies. As someone who has suffered with severe anxiety and depression, I would like to use this piece as a way to expose my brain with as much raw detail as possible in what grieving looks like for me. Within this process I am using the concept of the seven chakras to understand how they aid in the healing process in order to guide my dancers into truly understanding the essence of the emotions behind the movement. There are many ways in which someone can experience grief, but just as with anything else each experience is different. As someone who finds joy in learning the Japanese dialect as well as the history and structure behind it, I choose to title my piece 2:02 in kanji characters as the combination of the time along with the visual represents a significant time in my personal grieving process.
